Accuracy Before Speed
We work to publish information that is accurate, fairly presented and supported by reliable sourcing. Breaking news can change quickly, so developing stories may be updated as additional facts become available. When material facts are uncertain, we say so rather than presenting speculation as established fact.
News, Analysis and Opinion
News reporting is intended to establish and explain facts. Analysis interprets verified developments and their likely significance. Opinion expresses a viewpoint. We aim to label these forms clearly so readers understand what they are reading.
Sourcing and Attribution
Whenever practical, we prefer primary documents, direct statements, official records, on-the-record interviews and reputable first-hand reporting. We credit other publications when their original reporting materially contributes to a story. Anonymous sourcing should be used sparingly and only when the information serves a legitimate public-interest purpose and the source cannot reasonably be identified.
Headlines and Images
Headlines may be sharp, concise and attention-grabbing, but they should remain defensible based on the article. Images must not be presented in a way that materially misrepresents an event. Photo credits, agency information and rights data are displayed when available or required.
Updates
Articles may be updated to add new reporting, context, documents, responses or clarity. When an update materially changes the substance of a story, the article may display an updated timestamp or an editorial note.
Corrections
Material factual errors should be corrected promptly and transparently. Our full process is explained in the Corrections Policy.
Conflicts of Interest
Writers and editors should disclose material personal or financial interests that could reasonably call their independence into question. Sponsored or commercial material must be identified so it cannot be confused with independent editorial coverage.
